The deadline for contest entries has been extended to Jan. 31, 2015, to give more people a chance to participate. So over this holiday season, if you know somebody whose creative gifts should get more attention, tell them about Our Voices, Our Vision, or enter on their behalf!
The "Our Voices, Our Vision"
art and songwriting contest is temporarily on hold. More information will be posted here later this spring.
We want to help children, teens and adults on the autism spectrum share the awesome spectrum of their creativity. Contest will offer recognition for everybody, cash prizes for winners! Plus, the winning song will be professionally recorded, and winning artwork will be part of a NYC exhibit.
Five years ago, SingSOS! put out an album of songs featuring a parent's view of autism. Now it's time for the spectrum's point of view. Artworks and songs will be accepted at email@example.com. All entries will be exhibited online. On World Autism Awareness Day we will announce prize winners and unveil a PSA that features music and imagery from contest entries -- truly sharing "Our Voices, Our Visions."
We also welcome entries from parents, siblings, friends, relatives and teachers, but prizes will be reserved for those who self-identify as ASD. Our current roster of music judges includes Marshall Crenshaw, Aaron Weiss (of mewithoutYou), Rachel Platten, Rachel Taylor of He Is We, Don Dixon, Marti Jones and Ari Hest; art judges so far include Temple Grandin, Rosa Martinez of Strokes of Genius, Margaret Mikkelson of Arts Unbound and Randy Kennedy of The New York Times, with more of both to come!
Prizes will include:
Winning song -- $500 and professionally produced recording
Winning artwork -- $500 and NYC exhibition
Runners up -- $250, other prizes and memorabilia ...
Here's how YOU can participate or help:
* Spread the word and encourage people you know with a link to autism to participate, whether they're on the spectrum or a relative, teacher or friend of someone who is.
* We'll be using Kickstarter to raise what we need to give meaningful prizes. We'll let you know when it's up!
Click on the Listen button above to download the SingSOS! album or hear selections recorded by Jackson Browne, Dar Williams, Marshall Crenshaw, Jonatha Brooke and many others.
In memoriam: Marcia Sherman (art) and Dan Griffin Jr. (music).

Yesterday, Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism nonprofit, promoted "Our Voices, Our Vision" through its social media presence.
They say that OVOV "Spotlights Creativity in ASD" -- and that's exactly our goal! So please spread the word that interested entrants can email their art or music to firstname.lastname@example.org.
